Carpatho-Rusyn Heritage Database

Carpatho-Rusyns in Slovakia are putting together a digital database that would preserve the Rusyn history in photographs submitted by regular people. This fall the winner of an accompanying photo contest was Michal Feč from Svidník, who captured a representative piece of Rusyn architecture that, according to Daniela Kapralova, a Rusyn photographer who was in the jury, is also “a symbolic,  subconscious  confirmation of a current visual message about the Rusyn ethnic group.” I would love to think, though, that Rusyn heritage is much more vivid and alive than dilapidated houses that nobody takes care of.
