Remembered as a “devoted artist and organizer, in love with the nooks and crannies of his Rusyn land, Juraj Kresila was everywhere where painting was concerned.”
He was born in 1932. He studied under Dezider Milly in Bratislava and was very influential in developing and supporting visual arts in eastern Slovakia. His spent his career in Presov, but his most favorite subjects were still the lands of his birthplace – the village Michajlov. Mr. Kresila exhibited in many galleries in Slovakia and abroad – Italy, Germany, USA.
In 2006 he painted portraits of the elderly in Nova Sedlica (eastern Slovakia) together with other two artists from Uzhhorod – Myshanych and Sydoruk – starting a wonderful project that led to more portraits in 2013. The sitters were shy at first but later enjoyed it immensely. These portraits are now exhibited at The Seniors Community Center in Nova Sedlica.
Mr. Kresila passed away unexpectedly in 2007.
